Who can have Acupuncture?

Everyone... old, young, children and pregnant ladies can have acupuncture. Acupuncture is using your own energy to create harmony within the body. If you are suffering from an illness or taking medication then yes of course this needs to be taken into account, but after 4 years of studying I am trained and have the tools to work with you. For the ultimate results, to help me understand the best way to treat your individual needs all I need is a little understanding and cooperation. I can help and advise you how to increase health into your life but enevitably it is your body that will heal its self.

What is the difference between Naturopathic Acupuncture and normal Acupuncture?

Naturopathy is a system of alternative medicine based on the theory that diseases can be successfully treated or prevented without the use of drugs.

The difference from a general Acupuncturist is that as a qualified naturopath I will incorporate techniques such as nutrition, detoxification, Bach Flower remedies, Iridology and tissue salts in my home care plan.

How many treatments will I need?

How long is a piece of string? It is a very normal question of ‘how long until I see an improvement’ and the answer, like Western medicine, sometimes can be quite vague as it depends on the correct diagnosis and how the body reacts to the treatment. Some people are very reactive and will see a vast improvement within a few sessions , and others, possibly in more chronic cases may need to have multiple sessions to see any difference.

What happens during a treatment?

The initial treatment can last up to 90 minutes as a full medical case history will be taken by myself and then treatment administered. I would advise you to bring along any medical documents or test results which you may have to aid in treatment diagnosis. Subsequent treatments will last anything from 45-60 minutes. Single use Sterile Needles will be inserted into the body, along the meridian channels and left for approximately 20 minutes. Other modalities which I may use are cupping, moxibustion, gua sha and electro-acupuncture. Explanations of these methods are on the Treatments page.

What can acupuncture treat?

Here are some examples of ailments which Acupuncture can help with;

Acne, Addictions, Anxiety, Asthma, Bells Palsy, Chronic Fatigue, Colitis, Coronary Heart Disease, Crohns Disease, Cystitis, Depression, Endometriosis, Fibromyalgia, Hay Fever, Headache, High Blood Pressure, Infertility, Insomnia, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Menopause, Morning Sickness, Obesity, Osteorathritis, PCOS, Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS), Rheumatoid Arthritis, Sciatica, Sinusitis, Sports Injuries, Stress, Tinnitus, Vertigo.

Does it actually work?

Of course this is a question on many peoples' minds. How can I explain and help you to understand that an energy, called Qi, which you cant see or feel, sometimes will enhance your health. Well it is recognised by National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and National Health Service (NHS) as having benefits for treating certain ailments. In my personal opinion I believe that it can have a positive effect on mostly any disharmony within the body, mind and spirit. Most people source out alternative medicine when all other modalities have been exhausted and this can sometimes mean the body has been through a considerable amount first, and this needs to be taken into accounts going forward with expectations of treatment plans.
